Migration Oveland - adventure travel in Africa

Modern overland travel has slipped away from the ethos of discovering new places and experiencing new things, we want to take it back! We don't just collect stamps in our passports we experience real life, immerse ourselves in the culture and offer you a truly unique opportunity to discover West Africa.

This isn't just a holiday, it's one of life's great experiences. A journey of discovery, not only about West Africa , but also about you!

Most people who travel with us are between 25 and 55, although age is not important, being open-minded is! You don't need to be physically fit, you have the option to go off exploring on a mountain bike or sit and read a book, the choice is yours. We restrict group sizes to 10, enough people to build a good team but not so many that you can't get some time to yourself. The way we travel opens up many experiences that may not be available to other travellers, you need to be prepared to participate in all aspects of the trip, from helping with the cooking to bartering in local markets. The more effort you put in, the more you will get out!

By travelling in a group with our own fully equipped vehicles, we are self-sufficient, free to go where we want. The vehicle, crew and group structure create a secure, safe and above all, hassle free way of discovering West Africa.

- 3 week trips:

For our 3-week adventures, we will split 50/50 between camping and hotels. We aim to get off the beaten track and camp in some of the most amazing surroundings you will ever see but also give you the option to stay in a local hotel and get regular showers and laundry facilities. We supply all necessary equipment, all you need is a sleeping bag and some clothes!

- 16 week adventures:

Our 16-week trips are the ultimate in adventure travel. Most nights are spent camping as this allows us to really make the most of West Africa . Sometimes we will stay in local run campsites, complete with showers, laundry, restaurant and bar, but undoubtedly the best places to camp are those perfect undiscovered spots that we are the first to find. Sleeping under the vast African sky, listening to drums in the distance, camping amongst Saharan sand dunes or tropical beaches or equatorial forests, the list is almost as wide as the experiences you will have!

up to top of pageWhat do we eat?

West Africa has an amazing variety of locally grown foods; fruits are plentiful, from oranges that aren't orange, to pink bananas, to amazing tasting pineapples, mangoes, dates, coconuts, custard apples, guavas, star fruit and loads more. When camping we cook on the truck and we are able to produce a wide and varying diet, whether you are a meat eater or a vegetarian. Markets are a major part of West African life and culture and are also a major part of our trips. Buying food is a fantastic experience and the group will take it in turns to buy and prepare food, it may sound daunting but interaction with locals is always a highlight of our trips.
